The last time I worked out
with a personal trainer was last September. So recently when I decided to work
out with a PT again, I had to find a new one because my old one is no longer in
Fitness First Lippo Mall. This time, I tried the #FFLetsGetPersonal test in this
website http://fitnessfirst-letsgetpersonal.com
and the little test brought me to a personal trainer named Leonardo :D He is
every bit as good as my previous one. So I’m happy!
Sebagai blogger sejati kayanya nggak afdol kalo nggak ada postingan yang berhubungan dengan tahun baru :D. Afterall kan blog ini dibuat untuk refleksi dan evaluasi diri dan mencatat momen-momen penting. Jadi wajib hukumnya bikin rekapan 2013. 2013 flew so fast for me, maybe because it was such an eventful year. So much happened, so many new experiences, so much learning involved. Mudah-mudahan sih, I come out of 2013 a better person that I was in the beginning of the year.
One thing that always need to be grateful for: a healthy family. I've been so blessed that aside from minor flu and migraine, we have practically been healthy throughout the year. No doctor was involved, except for the dentist :). I know health is something that we can't take for granted and even though I have taken better care of myself, I cannot say I've done the same thing to my family. So, my goal is to introduce more and more greens to my family. More home-cooked meals prepared by me and (much) less junk food.
I
love outdoor, I really do. In fact, I run outdoor once a week. Either during
Car Free Day on Sunday Morning or on a late Sunday afternoon in GBK. But let’s
admit it, first the locations are not exactly near my house. And with the rainy
season like now, it’s too easy to use the rain as an excuse not to exercise J.
Not good, right? :D
So
that’s why I’m still keeping my gym membership. True, there were times when I
only went to the gym once or twice a month. It cringed me everytime I received
my credit card bill and found out that I’m still paying for it, wheter I use it
or not! But those days are long gone as I go there at least twice a week now.
The more I realized the wonderful things exercise does to me, the easier it is
to commit to it.
Here’s why I love my gym; Fitness First in Lippo Mall Kemang Village J
I’ve been working out with 4 different personal trainers, so yes I can definitely share my experience on how to choose the right one.
“We can choose?” you asked. Oh yes you can. Some women are more comfortable with female personal trainer. And there are a few levels of personal trainer starting from the newer ones to the most advanced ones. Of course, the ones with the longest experience come with a higher fee. But if you can afford the best, why not, right? :D. But I can assure you, the newer ones will be just as good, come with certification and all that. They are worth the investment.
Here’s a few things you can think of when choosing the right personal trainer for you.

I have to admit, for a
more efficient and effective work out, Personal trainer is the way to go. My
fastest trimmed down was when, along with clean eating, I exercised with a PT.
I don't have much time to exercise so whenever I can, I need to make sure I
squeezed as much sweat I possibly can. And that is something that won't happen
when I workout by myself because I tend to stop at the first sign of soreness,
or the first drop of sweat. With a PT somehow they know how much you can take
and will push you harder and harder and make you break that wall in front of
you.
So yes now I'm back with
the routine. Going to my favorite Fitness First in Lippo Mall Kemang Village.
Back with the familiar but long forgotten DOMS. It's good because whenever I
experience it, I will make sure to watch what I eat so my exercise didn't go to
waste. It's a cycle that benefit my fat loss journey.
Some of my friends ask
me why I need yet another PT when I'm not a beginner anymore in the gym. Here's
why:
No, not the actual rain. That, I don't mind. But it's the pouring rain of sad news that have been happening in my family.
Three weeks ago, my aunt (my dad sister) passed away. She's already old and had been sick on and off for the past year. Two weeks ago, my long-distance cousin, also from my dad's side, passed away. He had an accident at Pondok Indah toll road and didn't make it to the hospital. It was a really heart-breaking story. Yesterday, another of my dad's aunt, the youngest one, passed away. Just like her sister, she had been sick on and off. She also had a down syndrome since she was born so her organs are not functioning properly to begin with.
Three family members gone in a span of 3 weeks. That's kinda hard to digest, you know :(. I pray with all my might to not hear anymore sad news for a long long time.
In addition to that, I've also been receiving unfortunate news from the people around me. Affi was hospitalized for more than a week last month, Ipong's (Travelers Daily Managing Editor) mother has gone through surgery and diagnosed with cancer last week. Andy's parents, he is our developer, had an accident last month and had to stay in the hospital and went through some surgeries. Ningsih (our administrative assistant) lost her new motorcycle. Griss (Fashionese Daily Editor) had chicken pox. My mom's sister fell down and broke her arms. What else? Oh my friend's son, Astrid is also at the hospital right now.
And this reminds me that I really should go see my grandma this weekend. She hasn't been feeling really well either.
Let's hope for a healthier & safer tomorrow for everyone. And hold your loved ones tight, people. I know I wanna go home and hug my kids right now.

No, I'm not pregnant :p. This was the title of the talkshow I had to do as part of Mommies Daily collaboration with Toys Kingdom for their Baby's Day Out program. The previous two talkshows were done by Lita, Managing Editor of Mommies Daily. I rarely did a talkshow about parenting before, let alone as specific as pregnancy because it's been 5 years since the last I was pregnant. I'm not sure if I still remember any of it :D
But I think it went well. Good thing we didn't go into detail and just talked about what we need to prepare and expect during pregnancy and what should we do to make it as smooth as possible. Pregnancy, no matter how much we have prepared always has a surprise hidden somewhere in the journey. So always expect the unexpected :D
I didn't expect this day would come. The day when I finally have an e-reader and read from e-book. I've toyed with the idea last time when I saw Nopai with her Kobo, but I love books just as much as the next girl, so I just couldn't imagine the thought of not holding a real book anymore. But I have to admit, carrying a book around is not that convenient. There are times that I wish I have my book with me but most of the time my bags are overflowed enough.
So anyway, I went to Barnes & Noble during my last trip to the States. I found the 4 books I was looking for but then before I brought them to the cash register, I realized just how much space they would take in my suitcase :(. They have the Nook section in the bookstore, I played around with it and checked if the 4 books I was planning to buy are available in the Nook. Turned out they are, and some of them are much cheaper.
The Nook that I wanted (with glowlight) was $99, but they had a $20 promo and there was other coupon I could use off the Internet for another $20 discount. So the price ended up to $59..something that I couldn't pass up. So the Nook went home with me.
Buying the books from Nook is not that simple when you don't live in the States. They need to have a US address credit card on file. Since my uncle lives there, I just use his credit card to register. So far, I buy the book using Barnes & Noble gift card that I've bought while I was there. I think I can refill the gift card with Paypal.
So far, I've enjoyed reading from the Nook. The glowlight is especially helpful when I put the kids to bed. I won't be able to read from book because the kids like it dark. So I usually checked through my Instagram or Twitter. Now I'm doing something much better than mindlessly waste my time with social media.
The Nook is also unbelievably light that I've been able to carry it everywhere. My first book that I bought is the Conscious Business, recommended by Jeff Weiner, CEO of Linked In when I visited the HQ during Endeavor ISP. The second book I bought is titled Good to Great. It's interesting to learn about the level 5 leadership that is described in the book.
Remember this post? I've finally made it to Palo Alto and back to the US with the family :). We visited San Francisco, Palo Alto, Chicago, Carbondale, St. Louis, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It was a two weeks trip, we left on October 4 and came back on October 20. Mixing business and pleasure judulnya. As a working mom, something to always be thankful for is the ability to integrate family life into your professional life. It was a memorable trip. I would say the business part, the Endeavor experience, was quite life-changing. I've met ultra inspiring individuals and other entrepreneurs from around the world. I received priceless feedback and encouraging supports that I badly need. I was given a light to guide me reach another level in my entrepreneurial journey. I believe I came out of the program a better person, as an individual as well as an entrepreneur.
It's a long story that should be saved for another day. Now the kids are bugging me to make them a batch of chicken wings :).
'Till later.

Last week, I met a good friend of mine whom I've been friends with since high school, Mina and Aan. With Aan, I still communicate regularly although we only meet about twice a year. But Mina is a different story. I've pretty much lost contact with her for the past few years. She now lives in Weh Island, Aceh with her husband and three kids. She is here because her husband has a 7 month long training in Jakarta. It's nearing toward month 7 and the 'let's meet' talk still had not been realized until last week. I admit, part of it was because I kept rescheduling the meet up.
Today was the first day back to the office and I was surprised to see these pictures hanging on our community center :).

Turned out, Toples, our photographer worked hard last night to have it hung until 3am! A few months ago, I told him about the idea of having the wall of fame in our community center. We made it a secret project. Took picture of everyone and told them it was for the press card. Little did they know we turned it into something like this. And Toples still managed to surprise me because I didn't know he was planning to do it last night.
Recently, Jehan discovered a new technology called WhatsApp....and Blackberry Messenger. Aand she is messaging everyone she knows, from her grandma to her cousin and her mbak. Aaand she always asked me every few minutes if so and so has replied her message. Tsk tsk.

Well, maybe it's how you hone in your writing skill in this modern days, no? By the way, she can navigate the touch screen effortlessly, but it takes her some adjustment with Blackberry Qwerty. I wonder if everything will be touchscreen in the future.
Here's some of her WhatsApp messages.

I had a nice conversation today with Nina (the girl behind Go Girl Magazine) and Kennedy (the guy behind Globetrotter Magazine) with his wife, Muriel. We were talking about the media industry and how to run the media business in Indonesia. Since we're all entrepreneurs, of course the discussion led to managing a business, the challenge we face, the project we're working on and so on.I think we're all agree that a big part of managing a business is actually managing people. Go Girl started way earlier than Female Daily Network so Nina has gone through a lot, from happy times to tough times to even tougher times. Just like Female Daily, Go Girl started small. It's still a growing company where they have to learn through trial and error on what's work and what's not. Go Girl back then of course is a lot different than Go Girl today considering it's been more than 10 years since they have been around. And of course, that's a good thing. If they stay the same that means they're not growing, right?
